Flushing Radiation Oncology Celebrates Grand Opening of Second Site Bensonhurst Radiation Oncology

February 15, 2011

Flushing Radiation Oncology celebrated the opening of their second radiation oncology facility in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn. Employees, family and friends celebrated the opening of Bensonhurst Radiation Oncology located at 1737 Bath Avenue in Bensonhurst Brooklyn on February 15, 2011.

"Flushing Radiation Oncology wanted to offer the highest quality of patient care and most advanced cancer treatment in the region to the residents of Brooklyn with the opening of Bensonhurst Radiation Oncology," said John DiLeonardo, Chief Operating Officer. Bensonhurst Radiation Oncology offers the patients of Brooklyn Image Guided Radiation Therapy: It is the one of the most advanced technology to track cancer and spare normal tissues. IGRT is the type of radiation a cancer patient wants because this technology decreases the radiation dose to normal tissue, thus decreasing side effects and improving outcomes.

We give patients the option of being treated by two of the most technologically advanced cancer treatments: The Cyberknife Radiosurgery System at Flushing Radiation Oncology or Image Guided Radiation Therapy at Bensonhurst Radiation Oncology.

Cyberknife Radiosurgery compared to Brachytherapy for Prostate Cancer treatment

February 21, 2011

Cyberknife Radiosurgery and Low Dose Rate Brachytherapy have a few features in common. Both are outpatient procedures that can be completed over a week or less. Both treatments deliver a higher biological dose to the prostate cancer than standard external beam treatments and therefore can deliver very high local control of prostate cancer.

Since brachytherapy delivers dose only to the prostate, aggressive cancers cannot be treated with this procedure alone and require five weeks of EBRT as well. This is because these cancers often have spread outside the capsule where the brachytherapy cannot reach.

Cyberknife Radiosurgery can be planned to treat the surrounding tissues and therefore do not require additional five weeks of treatment. In addition, brachytherapy can cause more urinary irrigative symptoms and urinary retention than we see with Cyberknife. Cyberknife also requires no anesthetic and since the patient has nothing radioactive within him, there is no need to stay away from little children.

FROS Radiation Oncology Cyberknife Center offers Accuboost Image Guided Breast Cancer Treatment

January 3, 2012

Dr. Vincent Yeung and staff at FROS Radiation Oncology Cyberknife Center show their commitment in the fight against breast cancer by introducing the cutting edge technology - Accuboost Breast Cancer Treatment. FROS as the leader in innovative technology is the first center in Brooklyn and Queens to offer this advanced breast treatment.

Early stage breast cancer patients will now have the option to be treated with Accuboost at FROS Radiation Oncology. Unlike regular treatment using the lumpectomy scar as guidance which might be misleading, Accuboost delivers a well focused beam with the power of real-time image guidance to target the radiation dose accurately and reliably to the lumpectomy bed. Unlike MammoSite, there is no tube coming out of the breast and no risk of balloon burst and infection. There is no operation needed and it is painless. It can be used as a boost after whole breast radiation or it can be used as primary 5 days radiation treatment instead of whole breast radiation therapy.
